A person is driving along at the top of an east bay hill, a little fast. There are no passengers and music is playing. A cop appears and pulls the car over for speeding. Back in the car the driver is thinking, and we flash back to the driver’s memory of a friend that has since died. The friend had warns the driver not to drive fast in the east bay hills, that they were swarming with cops. Back in the present the cop has pulled the driver out to perform a sobriety test. While passing the test, the driver sees his deceased friend in a ghostly manner. This freaks the driver out and causes him to run, forgetting about the cop and their car, but the ghost follows. After running a great distance the driver can’t go any farther, and stops. The ghost and the driver now have a chat, reminiscing. The ghost reminds the driver to think back to that time they talked about driving fast in the east bay hills. We flash back to the same scene from before, but extended to see the solution (act sleepy?). Back to the present, the ghost looks at the driver and smiles. Cut to the driver in the middle of the sobriety test just before he started running, and he yawns. The cop gives him a warning, and our driver drives off into the sunset.
The film will be shot during magic hour on top of an east bay hill. The majority of the project will be shot on color reversal film for the saturation this stock can provide. The flashback will be shot digitally to give it a sharper, less colorful look. There will be a quick editing pace until the second flashback after which things will be edited at a more comfortable pace.
The first act will be similar to a Takeshi Kitano film—long lenses and harsh editing. Once the ghost and the driver are in conversation, it will be similar to the scene in Return of the Jedi where Luke and Ben are talking. The cop would be performed similar to the T-1000 in Terminator 2.
I will personally sell the film to everyone I know who will then tell others about it who will hopefully tell more others about it creating a viral marketing situation. The film will be available for legal download using bit torrent and I will post links to the torrent everywhere I can. I will also consider using something known as Bumvertising™ where you pay a homeless person standing on the street with a sign to be a walking billboard which can be potentially seen by hundreds if not thousands of people. That may be beyond my morals however.
This film will not present many challenges. However, for the purposes of this film, a cop is just a guy in a blue shirt with a toy badge. The particular east bay hill will be in El Cerrito at the top of Mosier Lane. The ghost effect will be a relatively simple effect that I can do myself. When you get pulled over by the police, usually they shine a spotlight on your car. Rather than find an actual spotlight, I will just over expose or push the film to create the look of the car filling with light.
